Football4Profit: News- Football

Last season was a rough one for football club Sheffield Wednesday, and despite Brian Laws’ (manager for the team) assurances for the future, the fact that they lost their opening six games last campaign can’t be forgotten. Despite their history, it just may be a chance worth taking to back the Owls as Burnley plays at Hillsborough this weekend. Recent years haven’t exactly proved the Owls to be the most difficult to beat. In fact, they lost more than 33% of their home games since they rejoined the Championship in 2005. Last season they managed to survive being dropped back down, but it wasn’t easy for the club and they know it. They picked up in the last 16 games of the season, and only suffered two losses in that time period, but only looking at their recent winning streak would be misleading to get an idea of the team. They just barely made it out of the bottom eight. The teams run of 7 draws in a row during the months of March and April was a warning flag to what turned into a lack of enthusiasm for the situation, until the stakes reached a point of no return. The catalyst seemed to be their crushing defeat by Blackpool with two games yet to play. At this point, an interesting change in managers took place: Burnley is no longer looking to Steve Cotterill to lead. Their appointment of Owen Coyle by the Turf Moor is an indictor that the club is looking to promote a genuine challenge in the near future. Or perhaps not near future, given that Coyle’s transfer talks have all been focused on seasons past the upcoming. Acquisitions of young and excited players like Martin Paterson, Kevin McDonald, and Chris Eagles will probably not result in getting the team a viable chance at the promotion this time, but the contributions to the team will have good effects when playing on a ground like Hillsborough, especially if Wednesday stay true to form. Totesport is offering odds of 9/4 that they’ll come through.
For now, we can take the frequency that Alan Pardew got ruffled, and sometimes, disruptive in the last half of the previous season as an indicator that something is wrong at Charlton, considering the fact that Pardew is not a volatile personality. The manager, formally of West Ham, has been known rather for his prudence in stressful situations, and for making solid decisions in tough times. His recent behavior may be a sign that he’s not getting the respect he feels he deserves in relation to his long-term plan for the club. He managed to make a few changes over the summer, hopefully showing he was getting the team lineup under his control again, but it has since been reported that the club sold the players without his consent in order to stabilize finances. Trying to keep in line for his stoic ability to manage, the Addicks manager has publicly stated that he will be looking to the younger players this campaign to get the team back on track. A noble effot; but we wonder how effective it can be if there is still disturbance that he’s not able to address directly. Only the future will tell how Swansea will be able to handle their promotion up to the Championship. Opening day may tell us little, as the emotions that charge the event are more about excitement than it is for nerves. We’re looking to watch them over the next six weeks to see just how the Jacks are going to perform in their new home; hopefully it will be closely akin to the energy they were so flamboyant with at the League One Finals last year, earning them the title. The Welsh club certainly has the possibility of standing up as a verifiable challenge to Charlton, if boss Roberto Martinez can get his members to lead off the season on the right foot. You can find odds of 10/3 to back the team. Before you throw your money down, though, know that the Londoners have usually had a bit of trouble with games on their home turf- especially those they’re expected to win. Last season they fell victim to Colchester and Scunthorpe at the Valley. At Floyd road, they’ve only won one game in the last seven- there’s a chance Swansea will trump the newcomers.
