Football4Profit: News- Boxing: Defeat for Khan Amir Khan’s first round loss to Colombian Breidis Prescott left more than a ringing in his ears- it left bookmakers and punters alike reeling as well. The loss has left Khan at 6/4 odds that he’ll never win a major world title in his career. Saturday night marked his first fight on pay-per-view, to the world. The silver medalist’s poor performance left Ladbrokes grappling with bets by punters who’d seen it coming- they had to pay out an excess of ₤75,000. Prior to the match, the firm had dropped the outsider’s rates from 7/1 to 5/1 due to lopsided support. The loss now has bookmakers thinking Jorge Rubio may not remain Khan’s trainer- to the tune of 5/6 odds. The odds have altered for both Khan and Prescott alike- where Khan is 4/1 to win a world title in 2009, Prescott is 3/1, according to Ladbrokes. Khan is at 16/1 chances to lose his next fight also within the 1st round. Hills is close, but not quite as optimistic, with 6/1 odds for a ’09 title, down from evens. If Prescott and Khan were to have a rematch in the near future, Hills have Prescott at 11/8 to win again, but Khan’s at 8/15 favourite to beat him out. It’s a change from the numbers up before this fight: Prescott had been 80/1 to get a round one win, 10/1 to earn a KO, and 7/1 for a simple win for Saturday’s match. Spokesperson for Hills, Graham Sharpe concluded the interview with: “ It was a shocking result for Khan- and for his fan from Nottinghamshire, who staked ₤32,000 on him at odds of 1/12 in an effort to make a profit of ₤2750. But Khan should not despair just yet, as very few boxers never taste defeat.”
