Football4Profit: News- Transfers in Football

Aston Villa has been able to grab their near miss from a few years ago. James Milner, the midfielder from Newcastle, has just signed a new four year deal for a reported €12.4 million with Aston Villa. Milner, now 22, made his Premier League debut for Leeds when he was 16. Leeds was soon relegated and Milner went to Newcastle, but was then given to Aston Villa on loan for the 2005 – 2006 season. Villa manager Martin O’Neill had a boyish glee when speaking with the press: "James has got a great spirit about him and I definitely think his best years are in front of him, it was disappointing two years ago not to sign him when we thought the deal was done and dusted but it is nice to have got it all sorted this time."

French international striker Louis Saha has signed with Everton. An undisclosed fee has wooed the player from Manchester United into a two year contract for the 30 year old. One item of interest that was disclosed was the option for a further season pending on a medical examination. Since leaving Fullham and joining Manchester United in 2003, Saha has scored 42 goals in 124 appearances. However, recently Saha has been plagued with injuries in the last two seasons. Overall, the new Everton player has scored 106 goals in 278 appearances in English football.

After three years of struggling to impress at Stamford Bridge, the 26 year old Shaun Wright-Phillips has gotten back together with Manchester City on a four year contract. All Wright-Phillips is doing is looking for a place to start over, especially after going to the London Club in 2005 and simply pushing himself to the point of exertion solely to try and get a place on the first string. Wright-Phillips only started in 43 matches in his last three years. Chelsea had signed him for a whopping €30.5 million and it is believed that they have made good on less than half of that amount. As far as Chelsea is concerned Wright-Phillips is now Manchester City’s problem.

Milan has lent out defender Massimo Oddo to Bayern Munich for one year and at the end of that year Bayern has the option to make the move permanent. Since the departure of Marcell Jansen, the Bevarian giants have been looking for someone to fill the shoes left behind. Many thought French defender Willy Sagnol would be the one but with his surgery on his Achilles’ tendon he will surely be out for months. Bayern’s only option was to look elsewhere and that is where they found 32 year old Oddo. Capped 34 times by Italy, Oddo, 32, ends his second spell at Milan just 19 months after joining the Rossoneri from Lazio.

By signing defensive midfielder Ever Banega the Atletico Madrid have dreams of pushing their team ahead of the UEFA Champions League. Banega is on loan from Valencia and the 20 year old player greatly attributed to Argentina winning the god medal in the recently concluded Beijing Olympics. This comes at the perfect time for Banega who a short time ago found his options of being on a first team limited once the Dutchman, coach Ronald Koeman was fired in April. Banega will be with Atletico Madrid for at least one contractual season for a reported fee of €18 million.
