Football4Profit: News- Transfers in Football

In the Dutch first Division, Ajax has reacquired Evander Solo, bringing back the midfielder to his training home. Sno turned professional with the Feyenoord team and then continued on to play for Celtic, beginning in 2006 and through 30 Premier League starts. The 21-year old has reportedly signed a three year contract, for an undisclosed fee.

Sunderland are making moves to strengthen up for the season by boosting the team with a couple of new acquisitions. DJibril Cisse has joined the club’s ranks on loan from Marseille for just the one season; the contract also includes the possibility of a permanent move pending relations and performance. The 27-year old spent two years- from 2004 to 2006- playing in the Premier League with the Liverpool squad. David Healy has also signed a contract with Sunderland, reportedly for the next three years. TH 29-year old comes in from the top scoring position for Fulham, having scored 13 goals during the European Championship.

Miroslav Djukic has been relieved of his role as head coach for National team Serbis. The Football Association of Serbia cited poor performance as the reason to let Djukic go, replacing him with Radomir Antic. Djukic was unable to record any wins for the club in 2008, and only earned two draws. Further Serbia was unable to progress past the group stage at the Olympics. The 59-year old replacement, Antic, comes with the experience of having coached Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid and has been contracted thru the resolution of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Winger Jerome Thomas has been permanently signed from his on loan status with English Premier Portmouth. The move includes a one year term for the 25-year old, previously lended from Charlton Athletic. This transfer opens up a spot for Portsmouth to borrow Arsenal fullback Armand Traore. The French 18-year old will be on loan for the full season, and hopefully means for the club that Hermann Hreidarsson’s burden will be a bit lighter as left back, and manager Harry Redknapp has an option at hand.

Arsenal’s need to pump up their defense has led them to a rare trade- they’ve taken France defender Mikael Silvestre from rivals Manchester United. The transfer reportedly for a two year term and an unpublished fee, marks the first trade between the rival teams since Brian Kidd in 1974. Arsenal’s need stemmed from the loss of Justin Hoyle to Middlesborough, Phillipe Sendero’s prolonged recovery for a thigh injury, and Kolo Toures bout with malaria. Silvestre, 31-years old, played at Old Trafford after 9 years playing, and passed on an offer from Manchester City, opting instead for the opportunity to play in the UEFA Champions League in London.

Arsenal will be holding on to asset Emmanuel Adebayor. Though the Togolese striker was seeming to court a myriad of clubs during the offseason, including Milan, the player has since had a change of heart, quickly solidified to paper with the London-based team. Reportedly, Adebayor has jumped from being likely to leave, to having signed a “long-term” contract with Arsenal, details have yet to be released. He had come to the team in 2006 from Monaco, and proved himself an talent by scoring 24 goals over 36 appearances in Premier League games.

Mateja Kezman will be joining the ranks of Paris Saint-Germain, as he was recently agreed upon for loan transfer from Fenerbahce. The contract, drawn up to the tune of €4m, also holds an option for permanence. The transfer comes on the heels of new coach Luis Aragones’ announcement diminishing Kezman’s worth with Fenerbahce, saying he wouldn’t consider him for future line-ups now that he has Daniel Guiza, the top scorer for the Spanish league last season. Instead, the 29-year old be playing for PSG, and they’re hoping the former Chelsea player will do as well for them as he’s proved himself in the past: having earned 20 goals in 46 league games since he moved from Atletico Madrid.

January marks the start of Henning Berg’s stint with the Lillestrom team, stepping in as coach. The 38-year old Lyn leader will be joining them for the next five years, according to his contract. Following Tom Nordlie’s resignation this summer, the club has been playing without a coach; Frode Grodas and Erland Johnsen have stepped in for the interim as functional substitutions until Berg’s contract begins in 2009. Currently Lyn is placed as fourth in the 14-team Norwegian ranks, and Lillestrom are trailing in 12th place.
