Football4Profit: News- Horse Racing

Looks like the Scoop6 fund will be rolling over to next week’s races, after no one won this Saturday’s pot. The Jackpot was up to £614,470 by the time the first race began, but no winning tickets were left standing at the completion of the last race. The lot will carry over to next week’s contest; as well as the £241,043 that is still in the bonus fund. One of the main reasons no winner for the Scoop6 prize was found was because Conquest, who’d stood at 40/1 odds of winning, came in first; a major surprise for Totesport, who had predicted that the Stewards’ Cup, taking place at Goodwood, would be “crucial” in the week’s result.

Following HenryTheNavigator’s victory at the Sussex Stakes event, Ladbrokes has moved the horse up to first favourite with odds of 7/2 to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Wednesday’s race at the Glorious Goodwood track saw Raven’s Pass being defeated by Henry, Aiden O’Brien’s winner of dual titles at the 2000 Guineas. This win earns him his fourth Group One win in a row. The winning streak has the Magic Sign believing that he may be able to accomplish what previous hopeful Rock of Gibraltar couldn’t. Rock came in as a close second place for the 2002 Breeders’ Cup Mile in Arlington. The master O’Brien is thinking that Santa Anita holds great possibility for HenryTheNavigator, as they prep for him to race on the synthetic surface at the Classic, calling it a “definite possible” that Henry will pull through for him. Ladbrokes is looking at the situation with an optimistic light, putting Henry at 7/2 odds as the market leader. A spokesperson for the firm, David Williams, has been quoted as saying, “We think he'd have a huge chance in the Classic and make him favourite ahead of Curlin.” Coral isn’t quite in agreement, and though he’s down four points from 10’s, the 6/1 odds aren’t as confident as Ladbrokes is seeming. Simon Clare said for Coral, “A match-up between Henrythenavigator, Curlin, Big Brown and New Approach is now a distinct possibility and would undoubtedly be billed as one of the great clashes in Breeders Cup history.” Betfred is offering the special for O’Brien’s chances of breaking Bobby Frankel’s world record of 25 Group 1/ Grade 1 winners in a season at 1/4, down from 2/7, after Henry’s win. That success was number 16 for O’Brien, and Betfred, based out of Warrington, believes that the record is just waiting to be broken by the master of Ballydoyle. They’re offering up 9/4 odds for his having 30 Group 1 winners this season, swashing records with finesse. “Aidan is a genius. There is no other way to sum him up, and the team that he has this season are simply awesome,” said spokesman Dave Metcalf. “His team of older horses look like they will continue to mop up all the big races, and in Mastercraftsman and Rip Van Winkle in the two-year-old ranks he has two real potential superstars. It look now as if is a case of not whether he will break Frankel's record but by how many!”

After winning the Betfair Gordon Stakes at Goodwood, horse Conduit still stands at 6/1 odds to win the St. Leger at Doncaster according to VC Bet. I wonder if the decision is at all related to how very narrow the win was. Managers for the team have not advertised as you might expect for the Classic, despite Hebridean’s challenge, and then Donegal piping into the fray. The majority of the time read that Andrew Balding’s Donegal might actually pull out as the favourite, but jockey Moore got his last desserts in by encouraging Conduit to pull ahead at the last moment. Moore only commented briefly following the close win. “He could do with the ground being a bit faster really,” he said. “I was a bit surprised that he didn't handle the bend that well because he acted around Epsom, but he struggled a bit today. It was a messy race. It wasn't a St Leger performance today but he wasn't at his best."

Coral has updated Zarkava’s chances for winning the Prix L’Arc de Triomphe from 5/1 odds to 7/2 odds after the announcement that the previous 4/1 favourite, stablemate Montmartre, might be missing out on the Longchamp showpiece. The second favourite to follow up is Soldier of Fortune at 4/1 odds, just in front of Duke of Marmelade, his stablemate, at 5/1 odds. A representative for Coral, David Steven’s added commentary for the odds change on the horse: “Montmartre had been the best backed horse in our Arc betting since his superb win in the Grand Prix de Paris, and while it may be some consolation to his connections that, in Zarkava, they still have the Arc favourite, news of his setback will come as a massive blow to his many ante-post supporters.” He continued, “As for the all-conquering Ballydoyle team, in Soldier Of Fortune and Duke Of Marmalade, they have two top-class contenders with which to attempt a follow-up to Dylan Thomas's victory last year.” Ladbrokes is in agreement with Coral, and has adjusted their rates accordingly. David Williams spoke on their behalf: “The Montmartre news is a huge blow for the Aga Khan and the many punters who backed him after his recent win in France. He's out of our list. But in Zarkava we still think the Aga Khan has got the best chance of winning the race. She's the major market mover for Longchamp and we're now keen to side with her.” Totesport, however, differ slightly and are still offering Montmartre at 5/2 odds with a run for the Longchamp trophy. The change was justified by Paul Petrie, who spoke on Totesport’s behalf, “This is an interesting development and we have decided to keep Montmartre in the betting but offer him with a run. Alain de Royer-Dupre obviously has the consolation that he also has the second in the betting but it will be a devastating blow for the race if Montmartre doesn't line up."

Fleeting Spirit has been taken out of the running for the York event. The ante-post favourite for the Coolmore Nunthorpe had odds as short as 9/2 with William Hill for the Group1 five furlong. The three year old’s most recent start at Ascot resulted in her finishing third at the King’s Stand Stakes. As her trainer’s yard has not been available for training, and has recently undergone a revitalization after the Royal Meeting ended in a virtual shutdown, Noseda has cancelled plans to have Fleeting Spirit run at York. When asked about the decision, Noseda said, “She wasn't right after Royal Ascot and hasn't yet bounced back in a manner in which I'd be happy to start off her preparations for the Nunthorpe. There's no plan. We will give her all the time in the world and she'll show us when she is ready again.” The change means that the winner of Nunthorpe last year, Kingsgate native, will hold their place as market leader with odds of 9/2 with Bet 365. They recently won the Golden Jubilee at the Royal Ascot.
