Football4Profit: News

New Zealand’s win over Australia on Saturday has put them back in the running to win the Tri-Nations tournament, and are currently standing at 12/5 odds for the title. Their victory with a final score of 39-10 has put the All Blacks at the top of the rankings, but still remain the underdogs in terms of the likelihood Graham Henry’s team will take the trophy. Sky Bet has altered their odds for the team from 11/4 to 12/5 following the success, which puts them at 10 points for 4 games. Currently, Australia’s got nine points from three games, while South Africa possesses five points from three games. Both Australia and South Africa have drifted since, with the Wallabies sitting at 7/4 according to Sky Bet, but 2/1 for Bet 365. The Springboks are 6/5 odds with Sky Bet. Auckland’s game play saw Ma’a Nonu and Tony Woodcock crossing twice for the winning hosts, four tries to one. Dan Carter made up the difference in points. The tournament will now move to South Africa for the next three games; August 16th will pit the Springboks against the celebratory All Blacks from New Zealand.

The Hungarian Grand Prix was alive and on the edge of its seat as Felipe Massa was running at the head of the race, with odds at 1.01 for a win. More than £18,000 was traded before the Brazilian had to retire, only three laps away from the finish line. The action so late in the race saw huge numbers being matched on the exchange. Not everyone lost out on the disappointment, though: Heikki Kovalainen, driver for McLaren, was enjoying the win, having been backed at a high of 170. Second-place went to Timo Glock, who had been backed at 50 for a podium finish, as well as Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen at 20. Lewis Hamilton had a rough afternoon, as his backers lost out with Hamilton only finishing in fifth place. He was overtaken early on in the race, the first corner to be precise, and then went on to suffer a front tire bursting- eliminating his chances for a third straight victory. Hamilton had rates on Betfair to win at 1.24 odds, and 1.06 for a podium finish. On the upside, he now has a five point lead in the title race, ahead of the current world champion Raikkonen. He is keeping is status as odds-on for most all the bookies, though Ladbrokes has dropped his odds from 2/5 to 4/7. Other notable rates to consider include Raikkonen at 5/2 (William Hill), Massa at 11/2 odds with SportingBet, or you could always bet against the three with odds of 66/1. For the Constructor’s Championship, Ladbrokes is offering 8/15, down from 4/9, that Ferrari will find a win.

In the time that’s passed since Paul Collingwood and Michael Vaughn have resigned from the game of cricket, sportsbooks are now leveling out their odds on who will replace the players. Ladbrokes has 1/3 odds that Kevin Pietersen will step in as the next permanent test captain, and 1/6 odds that he will be the next ODI captain for England. Pietersen seems the most obvious choice to fill in both roles, especially when you take into account the period of time he skippered the one day side when Collingwood was suspended. Following the Hampshire star for favourite, stands Andrew Strauss at 3/1 odds, to skipper in the longer game; 10/1 odds are for players Alastair Cook and Andrew Flintoff. Ladbrokes also has Kent’s Rob Key at 50/1 odds. To lead the ODI side, Cook is standing with 8/1 odds, and Owais Shah is keeping up as third favourite with 10/1 odds. Whoever does secure the Test captain position, they’re offering up 8/1 odds that the new guy will do better than Vaughan’s 26 wins in 51 test matches, as skipper. Robin Hutchinson, who made a comment as a representative for Ladbrokes, said, “We'll be amazed if the jobs go to anyone other than KP. But as England found with Sir Ian Botham, the best player doesn't always make the best captain.”
